Thomas Lloyd has kick started his 2015 season with victory on the Red Kite Stages.
The Glyncorrwg based driver made a welcome return to the stages after a year out of the sport to focus on growing his family run business and to rebuild his Peugeot 205.
“It’s a fantastic way to start our season,” commented Lloyd.
“The event was essentially a test for us. With a new co-driver and a rebuilt car I wanted to get back into the groove and have some seat time ahead of our BTRDA assault.”
Lloyd was joined for the first time by experienced and 2014 Welsh Tarmac Rally Champion navigator, Sherryn Roberts. Despite the treacherous icy conditions in the South Wales forests, the duo gelled instantly and found a comfortable yet highly competitive pace.
As their confidence continued to grow and with the ice now gone for the afternoon loop of stages, they were able to find rhythm and climb up the leaderboard. A mature and calculated approach to the conditions saw them score an incredible top ten result on their way to first in class.
“Sherryn was superb in the car and we gelled instantly. Our confidence grew stage after stage and so much so, we’ve decided to extend our 2015 programme.” Added Lloyd.
In addition to their BTRDA Rally Championship campaign, the Port Talbot duo will also compete in the Pirelli Welsh Forest Rally Championship, Welsh Forest Clubmans Championship and the FMP Rally Championship.
The Timberworks Wales backed team will head to the Forest of Dean on February 14th for the Wyedean Rally, as they begin their title assault in the highly competitive BTRDA Rally Championship.
